My Mission to Feed 1,000,000 Orphans Starts Here
CHRISTINE REVELL CHILDREN'S HOME, ATHLONE, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA · FEBRUARY 2025
The story
This is where the mission began. Alex was adopted from a Russian orphanage at one year old by his parents, John and Jennifer, and had not set foot in an orphanage since. In February 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa, that changed: a grocery run at Spar big enough to clear the shelves, a full month of food for the Christine Revell Children's Home, delivered in person with the store itself volunteering to box it up and drive it over.
The trip came together through Alex's friend, who had volunteered at this exact orphanage seven years earlier while studying abroad through a Marquette University program, the same school Alex attended. A full-circle moment neither of them planned.
The visit also made the why painfully clear: at the home, children of all ages have been there most of their lives, and only a handful have a realistic chance of being fostered or adopted. Many orphans are malnourished. Feeding them is the most direct help there is, and that is what the 1,000,000 meals mission exists to do.
“I used to be a Russian orphan, until my parents John and Jennifer adopted me when I was one year old.”
“I'll let you in on a little secret. I actually haven't been to an orphanage since I've been in one.”

Common questions
Which orphanage did Alex Evans visit in Cape Town?
The Christine Revell Children's Home in Athlone, Cape Town, South Africa, a home caring for children of all ages, many of whom have lived there most of their lives.
Why did Alex Evans start the 1,000,000 meals mission?
Alex was adopted from a Russian orphanage at one year old. Many orphans worldwide are malnourished and underfed, and after learning most kids at the home may never be fostered or adopted, providing meals became the most direct way he could give back. He announced the mission in 2024.
What was donated in Cape Town?
A full month of groceries: flour, sugar, oil, and non-perishable staples the orphanage could cook with for months. The Spar grocery store boxed everything and drove it to the orphanage.
How can I help the Christine Revell Children's Home?
Reach out through the contact page on this site or comment on the video, and Alex will share the orphanage's information for donations, volunteering, or adoption inquiries.

My name is Alex Evans, and I used to be a Russian orphan, until my parents John and Jennifer adopted me when I was one year old. But today I'm kicking off a massive mission. It's a mission I announced last year: I want to provide 1 million meals to orphans across the world. So today, I'm in South Africa.
Today I'm heading to Christine Revell Children's Home. Crazy, there's kids of all ages, and some of them have been here for their entire lives, and only four have the possibility of having a foster home or being adopted. It could get quite difficult to have them fostered or adopted, because people say, I just want one kid, and they're told, take three, so you don't separate siblings. It's a sad story that we see all across the world, and I feel so lucky to have gotten out of that. But today, we're about to go shopping.
Thanks to your generosity, we're heading over to the grocery store now to pick up items that the orphanage is ready to accept. Hey guys, so we made it to the grocery store. Super excited to be here. We're going to need like a million of these carts, because the money definitely goes a little bit further here in Cape Town, South Africa. Right now we're just picking up some of the essentials, so like flour, sugar, a bunch of oil as well, just stuff that's not going to go bad anytime soon, so that the orphanage can make food for months to come. So this is where your money's going. We're going to get back to stocking up these carts.
I'm just about to check out. We have an entire month of groceries already ready to go. The store is being super helpful. They've actually been willing to basically box everything up for us and drive us over there, so we didn't expect that. Thank you, Spar.
Okay, so we've just checked out of the store. We basically cleared it all out. This is the receipt, check this out. Unbelievable. And then we have all the stuff in the back. The grocery store is actually going to drive us over to the orphanage, and we have a couple of helpers as well, so I'm super excited. This is a ton of food.
I'll let you in on a little secret. I actually haven't been to an orphanage since I've been in one. So I'm really not sure what to expect, but I'm going to bring you guys along so you can see exactly what I see. If you want to get involved in the future, the best way to do that is to subscribe to my email newsletter at alexevans997.com. Lastly, I want to give a special shoutout to my parents, John and Jennifer. Thank you so much for adopting me. You're now helping other orphans get fed too. All right, let's head to the orphanage.
Okay guys, we just got to Christine Revell Children's Home. We're about to go for a tour. Like I said before, I've never been to an orphanage besides when I was in one. From what I can see, a lot of the kids look really happy, so I'm really happy to see that. We're just here to spread some love, to be honest, and give them some food, make sure that they're being taken care of. So let's go inside.
Hey guys, I think we are wrapped up here. Thank you to everyone who's helped out. Thank you to Khibo for driving. Thank you to Spar for driving us over here. And thank you to everybody who's donated, I'll personally reach out to you guys. If you want to get in touch with the orphanage, if you want to donate or if you want to adopt, just comment down below and I'll get you their information.
All right, it's a wrap. My friend who actually brought me out here to Cape Town, we went through the Garden Route, we did canyoning, we went on safaris, rappelled down waterfalls. I just wanted to pass the mic over and let everybody know how we pretty much ended up here, how we ended up at the orphanage.
"So seven years ago I studied abroad here in Cape Town, through a program at Marquette University actually, where Alex went to school. So this is very much a full-circle moment. I volunteered at an orphanage here, the orphanage today where we donated. When Alex decided to come on this trip, I realized the orphanage I worked at here would be a full-circle moment, us collaborating together on this mission to feed the orphans."
And like she's mentioning, I did start a mission. I announced it in 2024, and my goal is to provide a million meals to orphans across the world. People are probably wondering, why do you want to donate meals? Well, a lot of orphans are actually malnourished. They're not provided as many meals as they should be. And we feel very lucky to be participating with an orphanage here in South Africa. One thing that was upsetting to hear is that a lot of the kids probably don't have the chance of getting adopted or even fostered, which is quite upsetting and also very realistic. So it just reaffirms that the mission I'm doing, to provide a million meals across the world for orphans, is 100 percent necessary.
If you guys want to make any type of contribution, or if you want to learn more, just leave a comment down below and we'll get you more information. And if you're in the market for adoption, I think they would love to talk to you as well.
